PORTLAND, Maine — The Bowie Baysox scored in each of the first five innings and ran away with a 11-5 Eastern League baseball win over the Portland Sea Dogs in their series opener on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.
With the game tied 1-1 after one inning, Bowie struck for three runs in the second off of Sea Dogs starter Mitch Atkins (L, 1-2). Atkins allowed six earned runs on nine hits in three innings, walking two and striking out two.
Bowie added two more runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to extend its lead to 10-2. Adrian Marin, Austin Wynns, Drew Dosch, Joey Terdoslavich and Glynn Davis each had multi-hit games for Bowie.
David Hess (W, 3-4) lasted six innings in the start for Bowie and allowed two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out two.
The Sea Dogs scored their runs on an RBI single by Nate Freiman in the first to plate Andrew Benintendi and a solo homer by Cole Sturgeon in the third (his third). They added three more in the ninth off of Genison Reyes. Sturgeon finished a single shy of the cycle.
