BRUNSWICK, Maine — Thanks to social media, a Brunswick woman has found the woman who helped her daughter after a car crash last weekend.

After posting on Facebook, Courtney Garrison found the woman who stopped to help her daughter and friends, and finally got the chance to say “thank you” in person Wednesday night.

“When Mackenzie told me how many people would drive by her when she was out waving her arms bleeding she needed help because the boys were still in the car and nobody would stop and this lady did,” said Garrison.

Garrison says her daughter, her daughter’s boyfriend and friend hydroplaned on Route 1 in Brunswick Sunday night. She says the car went off the road, down an embankment and hit some trees and Ellen Anthony was the only one to stop.

To thank her Garrison says she posted what happened on Facebook and that she was looking for the driver, who she called an “angel.”

“It was just a Blue Ford Escape, a woman in her middle age and that’s all I knew about her,” said Garrison. “So I said I’m just going to put it on the Facebook Yard Sale site and within ten minutes her daughter contacted me.”

Anthony says she had been searching online wondering how the three teenagers were doing and was happy to hear from Garrison. Anthony says when she stopped the three teenagers were shaken up and one had a large gash on his neck and head.

“They were apologizing saying we’re getting blood in your car and I’m like I’m not even worried about it I just want to make sure you guys are alright,” said Anthony.

Garrison says her daughter’s car is totaled but the three teenagers are now home and doing well. She says she hopes others take what happened as a lesson to stop if you see someone who may need help.

“I don’t honestly know what would happen if they didn’t come, if she didn’t come,” Garrison said.

She calls Anthony a guardian angel so to thank her gave her a stained glass angel, the only gift she’d accept.

“She was the one that calmed them down, kept them safe, kept them dry, took care of them when we couldn’t be there,” Garrison said.
