OLD TOWN — Senior right-hander Kaleb Gifford pitched a perfect game in leading the No. 1 Old Town High School Coyotes by the No. 9 Belfast Lions 3-0 in a Class B North baseball quarterfinal Thursday.
Gifford used only 78 pitches in seven innings as no Belfast runner reached first base in the seven-inning contest. He struck out eight.
Old Town’s defense made big plays to back up their pitcher with right fielder Nick Swift preventing a base hit by nailing a runner out at first on a 9-3 putout.
Ryan Hoogterp added six putouts on the day.
At the plate, Hoogterp added an RBI single while Cole Daniel doubled twice and had two RBIs.
