WINDHAM, Maine — A 19-month-old child injured Sunday in an ATV crash on Laskey Lane has died of his injuries, according to the Maine Warden Service.
The child was injured when his 32-year-old father rolled the machine over backwards while going up a hill on their property, Cpl. John MacDonald said.
The father, whose name was not disclosed, was carrying the victim between his front legs. Two other children, aged four and six, were riding behind the father on the ATV, MacDonald said.
MacDonald added officials believe helmets were not being worn at the time of the incident. The 19-month-old was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he died of his injuries.
Conditions of the other two children and the driver were not disclosed.
The boy’s body will be examined by the state medical examiner’s office. The case remains under investigation.
