EDDINGTON, Maine — A man injured in a shooting that took place early Sunday morning in Eddington has been identified as 44-year-old Christian Tattan, according to his family.

His brother David Tattan of Bangor said Tuesday in a text message that Christian Tattan remains at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

“Anesthesia keeps him under (asleep),” wrote David Tattan. “He has woken [up] and open[ed] his eyes when it wore off but they want to keep him under so he don’t reinjure his wounds.”

Police have neither released the identity of the shooter nor any details about the incident, which they say remains under investigation.

The owner of the home where the shooting occurred had been granted a protection order against Tattan last year, according to records filed at the Penobscot Judicial Center.

Tattan was barred from contacting or visiting the home of Renee Lee, 39, who received a two-year protection from abuse order against him on Aug. 19, 2015. The complaint filed requesting the order accuses Tattan of abusive and threatening behavior.

Lee told the BDN by text message that “at this time I am not allowed” to comment about what happened.

Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office deputies went to Lee’s home at 30 Hill St. about 6 a.m. Sunday after a shooting was reported and found Tattan bleeding. The investigation was turned over to the Maine State Police because the injuries from the shooting were serious enough they could result in death, Lt. Troy Gardner of the state police said Monday.

Gardner confirmed that Lee is in a relationship with a Penobscot sheriff’s deputy, but said it does not factor into the investigation.

“That relationship doesn’t have anything to do with this case,” Gardner said, adding the deputy was not at the house at the time of the shooting.

Tattan has a criminal history that includes convictions for criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, according to Bangor Daily News archives.

On Aug. 6, 2015, Penobscot County Deputy Chris Watson issued Tattan a trespassing and harassment warning, according to court records. Lee filed for the protection order the next day and it was granted on Aug. 19 and issued to Tattan the same day, according to court documents.

No charges have been filed in the shooting, however, “There is certainly a potential for that,” Gardner said, adding that detectives also are keeping the Penobscot County district attorney’s office up to date on the case.

“Investigators are still trying to determine what exactly happened, and why,” he said. “We’re continuing our investigative efforts.”
