THORNDIKE, Maine — A Mount View High School math teacher was arrested Thursday on sex charges involving a student at that school, the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed.

Aaron W. Clark, 37, of Etna was charged with unlawful sexual contact and unlawful sexual touching, both of which are Class D crimes, according to Lt. Matthew Curtis.

The charges against Clark resulted from a complaint filed on June 8 by the parent of a student at Mount View.

Clark resigned from his teaching position on June 9.

“As you know, all personnel matters are confidential per state law,” Regional School Unit 3 Superintendent Paul Austin said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon. “Thus, I am not at liberty to discuss any personnel matter. I can tell you that Aaron Clark was a math teacher at Mount View High School from Sept. 1, 2008, to June 9, 2016. He is no longer employed by RSU 3.”

Clark was taken to Waldo County Correctional Facility, where he was released on $1,500 bail about 6:30 p.m., a jail official said.

Curtis said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to the case is asked to call Detective Dale Brown of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office at 338-2040.
