PITTSFIELD, Maine — An 18-foot boat was destroyed Monday morning after a Parsonsfield man lost control of the vehicle he was using to tow the boat on Interstate 95, state police said.

Charles Foley, 74, appeared to have fallen asleep at the wheel, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Foley was not injured, McCausland said. He was traveling to Eagle Lake for a fishing trip when the crash occurred shortly after 9 a.m. Monday.

“No enforcement action was taken against [Foley], but the fishing trip was ruined,” McCausland said.

The trailer hauling the boat also was destroyed, McCausland said. The boat and trailer came loose from Foley’s sport utility vehicle and overturned into the median. The SUV was not damaged.

The passing lane in the area of Mile 143 was closed for about an hour as the wrecked boat and trailer were removed.
