SOUTHWEST HARBOR, Maine — A New Hampshire man and a Southwest Harbor resident have been charged with trafficking in heroin as the result of an investigation by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s Downeast Task Force, the Southwest Harbor Police Department and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
Andres Martinez, 42, of Hudson, New Hampshire, and Ian Jellison, 35, of Southwest Harbor were arrested and taken to Hancock County Jail.
Martinez’s bail was set at $25,000 cash, and Jellison’s bail was set at $3,000 cash. Both are scheduled to appear in Hancock County Unified Court on Aug. 12.
The arrests were the result of an investigation into heroin trafficking that spanned several months, MDEA Cmdr. Peter Arno said Monday in a news release.
During the early morning hours of Thursday last week, investigators executed a search warrant at 258 Main St. in Southwest Harbor.
As agents and officers arrived at the residence, they were able to determine that two men had fled from the house when they saw law enforcement officers arriving.
Ellsworth police Sgt. Shawn Willey and his K-9, Chase, were allegedly able to locate Martinez hiding in the woods a short distance from the Main Street residence.
Jellison turned himself in to MDEA agents on the following day.
As a result of evidence gathered during the investigation — including heroin and about $1,500 in cash — both Martinez and Jellison were charged with trafficking in heroin.
The MDEA was assisted during this investigation by the Southwest Harbor Police Department, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and the Ellsworth Police Department.
Arno said the investigation is continuing and that more arrests are likely.
