HOLLIS, Maine — A local man was arrested Monday night after leading a state trooper on a short pursuit, according to Maine State Police.
Trooper Benjamin Smith tried to stop Bryan Kelley, 23, on Cape Road for a motor vehicle defect when he took off around 8:30 p.m., a statement from state police read.
Kelley’s vehicle reached speeds as fast as 99 mph in a 45 mph zone, and he passed another vehicle in his attempt to get away, the statement said.
The trooper witnessed the vehicle try to turn into a private driveway, but Kelley missed and drove into a ditch, which he subsequently drove out of and back onto the roadway. Kelley then drove the vehicle into the driveway and tried to hide it behind a house, which was his own house.
Smith quickly located Kelley and placed him under arrest, and he was charged with eluding an officer, a Class C crime. Charges of driving to endanger and criminal speeding could be added.
Kelley was taken to the York County Jail.
