SACO, Maine — A Good Samaritan rescued a man from a burning boat Tuesday morning.
Marine patrol officers said they were called out to a burning boat about 4 miles offshore from Camp Ellis in Saco near Ram Island.
Investigators said Tim Lenz’s boat went up in flames around 7:30 a.m.
Fire singed some of his hair, but he escaped by paddling away on a dingy he had with him.
Lenz said a stranger who was fishing came over moments later with his boat to help him.
He said he feels lucky, despite losing many personal items when the boat sank.
“If I would’ve gone back in and then grabbed them, I wouldn’t be standing here talking to you right now. It was just so intense. I mean you see the stuff on TV on planes and how thick that smoke is, that’s exactly how it is,” Lenz said.
