BLUE HILL, MAINE – Edna Carol Carter, 82, died peacefully July 4, 2016, at her home in Blue Hill. She was born December 7, 1933, in Blue Hill, the daughter of Frank R. Day and Hazel M. (Ricker) Day.
Edna graduated from George Stevens Academy, class of 1951, and attained the Honor Part of Valedictorian. During high school Edna worked for her father at South Blue Hill Pottery decorating wheel-thrown pottery. Upon graduating from high school she worked for Bangor Hydro Electric Company in Ellsworth.
Edna and Gordon F. Carter of Blue Hill were married on December 14, 1951. They celebrated 64 years of marriage in 2015. In addition to seeing her 3 children off to school each day, she worked at the Blue Hill town election polls for several years and provided housekeeping services to several valued families in Blue Hill until her retirement.
Edna played the piano, guitar and played the clarinet in The Brooklin Band. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She knit, crocheted, and made braided rugs. Many feet, hands, and heads have been kept warm with her knitted socks, mittens, and hats.
Edna enjoyed spending time at Camp Adore, the family cottage, on Allen Cove in Brooklin. There, she and Gordon enjoyed lasting friendships with residents of the Allen Cove community. it was at camp that Edna hosted the annual Carter family Christmas party and many family and friend gatherings.
Edna is survived by her husband, Gordon F. Carter; son, Gregory Carter of Bangor; daughter, Nanette Lake and her husband, Ernest, of Augusta; and daughter, Kerryn Astbury of Brooklin. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Celmalena Paquette and husband, Michael, of Chelsea, Benjamine Astbury and partner, Amanda Closson, of Sedgwick and Annalee Grindal and husband, Timothy, of Blue Hill; great-grandchildren, Olivia Paquette, Dawsen and Mathew Astbury, and Hollis, Noah and Jacoby Grindal. Also surviving is her beloved sister, Jeanette Ryan and husband, Vernon, of Brooksville; a special nephew, Dwayne L. Carter of Orland; and a special friend, Micca Wootten of Blue Hill.
