GRAY, Maine — A state trooper was injured Wednesday night while sitting in his cruiser at a construction site on the Maine Turnpike in Gray, according to officials.
Kyle Pelletier was assisting construction crews, which closed down the passing lane, when his cruiser was sideswiped, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
The other driver, Deanna Marshall, 57, of Norway, was believed to be operating under the influence, according to McCausland.
Pelletier’s emergency lights had been activated, and Marshall apparently drifted into the passing lane while she was traveling north.
Pelletier suffered a back injury and was treated and released from Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Marshall and her great-grandchild, who was riding in the back seat, were uninjured, but Marshall was taken to Maine Medical Center for evaluation, McCausland said.
The child was under the age of 2, McCausland said. Charges are likely once test results are concluded, he added.
Marshall’s car was demolished, and the cruiser sustained several thousand dollars of damage.
