BANGOR, Maine — Brewer received solid pitching efforts from James McGlaughlin, Josh Pellegrino, Zach Steiger and Preston Weatherbie to eliminate Bangor 6-2 late Sunday night in the District 3 Senior League all-star baseball tourney at Mansfield Stadium.

Brewer will take on Old Town in an elimination-round game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday after Monday’s contest was postponed due to rain. Tuesday’s winner advances to play in the championship round at 5 p.m. Thursday against unbeaten Bronco-Hermon. If Bronco-Hermon loses, a second game would follow.

The teams are playing for the right to represent their district in the Senior League World Series at Mansfield. The District 3 champion will open Senior League World Series play at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 31, against the U.S. Southwest champion.

On Sunday night, Brewer’s four pitchers combined to limit Bangor to two runs on six hits while striking out nine batters.

Josh Pellegrino contributed for Brewer (3-1) with an RBI double while Josiah Cyr chipped in with two singles and an RBI. Kobe Rogerson contributed with two singles.

Zach Cowperthwaite singled twice and drove in a run for Bangor (1-2) and Zach Ireland added a double.

Earlier in the day, Brewer eliminated Sebasticook Valley 12-8, Bangor ousted Holbrook 7-2 and Bronco-Hermon handed Old Town its first loss 4-1.

In the first game, Jordan Wood hit an RBI single and Tyler Hersey added a two-run single in the fourth inning as Brewer rallied from a 3-2 deficit to take the lead.

Wood finished with two doubles, a single and two RBIs for Brewer. Pellegrino contributed with a double and two singles while Hersey added three singles and two RBIs. Evans Andrew chipped in with a double, single and an RBI and Josiah Cyr added two singles and two RBIs.

Ben Southwick sparked Sebasticook (0-2) with three singles and two RBIs and Colby Pinette contributed two singles and three RBIs.Cody Rice added a double while Angelo Facione, Zach Hartsgrove and Josh Perry each chipped with two singles. Perry also drove in a run.

In the second game, Zach Cowperthwaite held Holbrook to two runs and four hits in 5 ⅓ innings while striking out six to help Bangor earn the win.

J.J. Higgins and Dean Grass each singled twice to pace Bangor, with Higgins driving in a run. Zach Ireland added an RBI double.

Nate Smith led Holbrook (0-2) with a double, single and RBI.

In the third game, Alex McKenney earned the pitching win for Bronco-Hermon as he struck out nine batters in 5 ⅓ innings while giving up just two hits and a run.

Alex Applebee smacked an RBI double for Bronco-Hermon (3-0) while McKenney helped his cause with two singles and an RBI. Garrett Trask also singled twice.

Jacob Dubay and Nick Swift each singled for Old Town (2-1).
