STRONG, Maine — Western Maine is cleaning up tonight, after powerful storms ripped up trees and buildings.
The storms came right through Strong and took out several trees and power lines. Two large trees were completely uprooted; the homeowners estimate they were at least 100 years old.
Tom Mauzaka says in his 32 years living in Strong he’s never seen such a powerful storm.
“It didn’t last long, I’d say 5-10 minutes, to see that level of devastation is amazing,” Mauzaka said.
The area was under severe thunderstorm warnings and a tornado warning this afternoon. Several streets were also closed with trees taking down wires.
Erika Brault says it made her have second thoughts about staying in her trailer.
“It was lots of wind, but wind and hail,” Brault said. “I was in my home in a trailer and I could feel my trailer shake and move it must’ve been pretty scary it was pretty scary.”
While her trailer was fine, the storms destroyed her neighbor’s two sheds and uprooted several trees there as well.
There have been no reports of any injuries due to the storms. Firefighters say it seems trees and power lines were hit the worst.
The homeowners say they are very thankful the trees fell the way they did and avoided their home that’s only a few yards away.
