LITCHFIELD, Maine — A break-in at a vacant camp on Pleasant Pond has led to charges for a couple, according to state police.

Julie Rand, 41, of Litchfield and Steven Bonavita, 46, of Milbury, Massachusetts, are facing a criminal trespass charge, and Rand also is accused of refusing to submit to arrest, a statement from state police read.

The incident was reported around 6:45 a.m. July 17, the statement said.

The resident notified police that he had observed Rand and Bonavita removing a window screen to gain entry to the camp, according to the statement.

When troopers arrived, Rand allegedly fled out a back door carrying her clothes while Bonavita remained and cooperated with police. Rand ignored orders to stop and kept running from the scene but was quickly taken into custody.

Both are expected to appear in court in September.
