TRENTON, New Jersey — Trenton catcher Kyle Higashioka snapped a 2-2 tie with a solo homer in the eighth inning, giving the Thunder a 3-2 Eastern League baseball win over the Portland Sea Dogs Tuesday night at Arm and Hammer Park.

Mitch Atkins was solid in a no-decision for the Sea Dogs. He gave up two runs in the first, but allowed just one hit and one walk in the next five innings, retiring the final 10 batters he faced. The righty struck out six.

Portland tied the game in the sixth off Ronald Herrera. With one out, Mauricio Dubon walked and scored on a triple by Andrew Benintendi. Nate Freiman tied the game with a run-scoring single.

Tyler Jones (5-2) earned the win for Trenton, tossing two scoreless innings on just one hit and three strikeouts. Williams Jerez (1-5) surrendered the homer to Higashioka and took the loss. Jonathan Holder worked a perfect ninth for his 10th save of the year.
