BANGOR — Josiah Cyr turned in a strong relief effort to help lead the Brewer all-stars by Old Town 9-4 Tuesday night in the elimination round of the District 3 Senior League baseball tourney at Mansfield Stadium.
Brewer (4-1) advanced to the championship round against unbeaten Bronco-Hermon at 5 p.m. Thursday. A Bronco-Hermon loss would force a second game at 7:30 p.m.
The District 3 winner advances to the Senior League World Series, which begins Sunday, July 31 in Bangor.
Cyr came on in the top of third with three Old Town runs in, with the bases loaded and no outs but he retired the next three batters, two by strikeouts.
He finished with four strong innings of relief, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk. He struck out seven.
Brewer surged to the lead in the fourth, highlighted by Tyler Hersey’s two-run double.
Zach Steiger sparked Brewer with an RBI double and three singles. Hersey added a single and finished with three RBIs while Zach Duncan smacked an RBI double.
Ethan Stoddard paced Old Town (2-2) with a three-run triple and Nathan Hallowell added a double.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Dylan Street’s two-out RBI single in the seventh scored Tanner Evans from third and lifted Old Town into the championship game of the District 3 Junior League tourney.
Old Town (3-1) will battle unbeaten Bronco-Hermon at 5 p.m. Wednesday and must beat them twice to claim the crown.
Evans led off Old Town’s seventh with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on an error to set up Street’s winning pitch.
Chris Albert picked up the win in relief after giving up one hit in 1 ⅔ innings.
Evans finished with two singles for Old Town and Ethan Hayes added an RBI double.
Ben Spear sparked Holbrook (4-2) with three singles and an RBI while Braeden Ward added a double.

At Colby College in Waterville, Skowhegan Post 16 scored five runs in the first three innings en route to a 9-1 victory over Motor City in Zone 1 American Legion baseball action Tuesday night at Colby College.
Cody Laweryson racked up five RBIs on two triples and a single to lead Skowhegan. Adam Turcotte chipped in with an RBI single while Chase Malloy added a two-run single in the sixth. Brendan Curran and Turcotte each finished with two singles.
Mike Berry turned in a strong four innings in his start for Skowhegan as he didn’t allow an earned run while giving up three hits and two walks. He struck out two.
Sam Southwick singled twice to lead Motor City of Old Town/Orono.

At Colby College in Waterville on Sunday night, a single from Evan Holzworth in the bottom of the 10th inning brought home the winning run for Skowhegan Post 16 .
The Acadians jumped out to an 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Connor Maguire singled, stole second and third and scored an overthrow by the catcher. Ethan Shepard’s infield groundout scored Nick Bagley with the other run.
Skowhegan responded with a run in the first and fifth, scoring both runs on errors.
Isaiah Vigue pitched five innings for Skowhegan, giving up two runs and three hits but not walking a batter and striking out two. William Stinson followed with four scoreless innings on four hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Chase Malloy pitched the final inning, gave up a run and got the win.
The Acadians took the lead in the 10th when Maguire scored on Bagley’s single.
Skowhegan rallied with two runs in the 10th when Dylan Willette hit a bases-loaded single and Holzworth followed with an RBI single.
