BANGOR, Maine — A Penobscot jury Wednesday found an Eddington man guilty of two counts of possession of sexually explicit materials and one count of violation of privacy, according to the Penobscot County district attorney’s office.
District Court Judge John Lucy ordered Jorden Goode, 26, be held at the Penobscot County Jail while awaiting sentencing, Assistant District Attorney Tracy Collins, who prosecuted the case, said Thursday. Goode had been free on an unsecured bail.
She said the jury deliberated for about an hour before announcing its verdict.
Defense attorney Stephen Smith of Augusta said he would not comment on the case until the sentencing but is considering appealing the verdict to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.
Goode came to the attention of law enforcement last year when his friends discovered he had placed a hidden camera in the bathroom at one of their apartments that was recording them, the prosecutor said. The friends took Goode’s hard drive to police.
“When police examined his computer and external hard drive, they found more than 2,000 images and videos of child pornography,” Collins said Thursday. “The ages of the children ranged from babies to 14, 15 and 16 years old.”
She said no evidence was presented at the three-day trial that showed Goode shared the pictures taken in his friends’ bathroom on the internet, but he had saved them.
“This evidence was really difficult for jurors to look at,” Collins said. “We’re grateful they are holding this defendant responsible for these very serious crimes.”
Goode faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
