BANGOR, Maine — Eastern Maine Community College will offer a pair of tuition-free certificate programs at off-campus centers in Dover-Foxcroft, East Millinocket and Ellsworth, the school announced Friday.
The health care secretary and computer applications specialist programs, which total 34 and 30 credits, respectively, will be available for up to 25 students. The programs will be offered within the school’s medical office technology degree.
Students involved in the programs will not be charged tuition or fees and will get textbooks for the first semester free of charge. Students also will be eligible to apply for financial aid to help defray other education-related expenses.
“These certificate programs will provide significant education and career opportunities for residents of rural Maine,” academic dean Liz Russell said. “Graduates will be well qualified to work in hospitals, clinics and doctor’s offices or continue on to complete a two- or four-year degree.”
Students will have the option to complete EMCC’s two-year associate degree in medical office technology, which fully transfers to the University of Maine at Fort Kent’s business management program.
The program’s funding comes from Maine Community College System’s Bring College to ME program, which delivers community college programs to people in rural parts of Maine.
Students looking to enroll can contact Stacy Green at EMCC at 974-4680. For more information, visit emcc.edu/news-events/motcertificates.
