PALMYRA, Maine — Traffic on Interstate 95 was snarled Friday afternoon by an accident near a construction site, according to officials.

The crash occurred near mile 153 in the southbound lanes, according to Maine Department of Transportation spokesman Ted Talbot.

Traffic in the area had been reduced to one lane for paving operations, resulting in major traffic tie-ups, Talbot said.

Motorists have been asked to seek an alternate route or expect significant delays.

Talbot said more information was likely to be released later Friday.
