BINGHAMTON, New York — The Portland Sea Dogs picked up a season-high 18 hits in an 11-3 thrashing of the Binghamton Mets in an Eastern League baseball contest Friday night at NYSEG Stadium.
Portland’s Ryan Court and Aneury Tavarez each finished a hit shy of the cycle, as they both went 4-for-5.
Mitch Atkins (3-5) earned his first win since June 12th, working 5 1/3 innings on four hits and two runs.
Portland scored nine runs off losing pitcher Tyler Herron (2-2) and built an 11-0 lead through six innings.
Jake Romanski put the Sea Dogs on the board with a sacrifice fly in the second and hit a three-run homer in the fifth off Logan Taylor. Portland scored four times with two outs in the third. Nate Freiman singled home Tavarez and Court hit a three-run homer.
Tavarez nailed his seventh triple of the season in the fourth to score Tzu-Wei Lin. The Sea Dogs scored four times with nobody out in the fifth off Herron. Freiman tripled and scored on a single by Court. Romanski homered down the right-field line to greet Taylor.
Binghamton scored two runs in the sixth and added a run off Williams Jerez in the eighth.
