NEWTON, Iowa — Fort Kent native Austin Theriault raced to a third-place finish in a NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West race Friday night at Iowa Speedway.

Theriault started the Casey’s General Store 150 in third place and stayed in the front of the pack throughout to record the third-place finish. He also moved up to third place in the driver points standings with four races remaining in the K&N series.

Theriault, 22, drove a car for the Yazaki Toyota team and he posted a short summary of the race to his Facebook page: “Car was consistent all weekend. Thank you to our sponsor Yazaki, a worldwide independent automotive component maker, for racing with us. Can’t thank the whole crew enough for their continued hard work and dedication.”

Todd Gilliand won the race, which combined the drivers from K&N’s East and West series. Gilliand, 16, of North Carolina led for 116 laps.

Kyle Benjamin finished second in the race, Collin Cabre finished fourth and Ryan Partridge took fifth to round out the top five.

Theriault returns to the track Friday for K&N’s Pro Series East race at Watkins Glen (New York) International.

He has recorded six finishes in the top five and seven in the top 10 in the series this season.
