ROCKLAND, Maine — City police are crediting the public’s help in tracking down a man concerning a possible theft at a supermarket.
Rockland police issued a statement Monday morning with photographs of the man taken about 12:30 p.m. Sunday by the surveillance cameras at the Hannaford supermarket on Maverick Street in Rockland.
Sgt. Donald Finnegan said police wanted to speak to him about a possible theft, but the sergeant declined to release any additional details until the person of interest was located.
The man had arrived at the store with a woman who was older than him as well as with a man with blond hair who was younger, Finnegan said.
Later in the day, police reported that, thanks to the public’s help, the man in the photo has been identified. Finnegan did not release the man’s name, however, or indicate whether he would be charged with anything.
“We’ve been in contact with him and will have more details to release tomorrow,” Finnegan said late Monday.
