EDINBURG, Maine — An Orono woman was injured in a crash Monday on Interstate 95 and received medical assistance from two doctors who drove upon the crash, state police said.

Sakura Violette, 21, was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor after her Subaru SUV left the northbound side of the road and rolled over at least once in the median at about 1:50 p.m., said state Trooper Benjamin Campbell, the investigating officer.

Violette also might have suffered head injuries, he said.

A spokesman at the hospital did not immediately return a message seeking comment on Violette’s condition on Monday afternoon.

The SUV came to rest with its front end hung up in some trees. The helicopter landed on the highway after emergency service workers stopped traffic just north of mile marker 213, the location of the crash, Campbell said.

The doctors came along immediately after the crash and were helping Violette, the state trooper said.

Campbell said it wasn’t immediately apparent why the SUV went off the road.

Anyone who saw the crash occur, or who saw Violette before it, should call Campbell at 973-3700.
