LISBON, Maine — The Lisbon Town Council on Tuesday voted to approve longtime Brunswick police Cmdr. Marc R. Hagan as the town’s new chief of police.

Hagan, 47, of Topsham assumes the position from former Chief David Brooks, who retired June 30 after 36 years leading the department.

Hagan joined the Brunswick Police Department as a patrol officer in 1990, and he has since held the positions of community police officer, patrol sergeant and patrol lieutenant.

In 2008, he was promoted to patrol commander, and he also serves as commander of the department’s special response team.

Lisbon Town Manager Diane Barnes officially nominated Hagan for the position during an executive session at the start of Tuesday’s meeting, and the council then voted in public session.

In an email Tuesday evening, Hagan said he was grateful to have had the opportunity to work with “some of the greatest people anyone could ever know” during his career in Brunswick.

“It will certainly not be easy to take over an agency that Chief Brooks ran so adeptly for 36 years, but I look forward to the new challenges and opportunities that await me,” he said.

Hagan will begin his new position on Sept. 1.

No additional information was available Tuesday evening.
