FALMOUTH, Maine — A Cumberland County man has been charged in connection with an armed robbery Tuesday afternoon at a local Rite Aid, according to Falmouth police.

Cory P. Waugh, 33, of Naples is charged with robbery and violation of condition of release in connection with Tuesday’s incident and with domestic and assault and violation of condition of release on outstanding warrants.

Falmouth police responded around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday to the Rite Aid at 33 Depot Road, the release said. A white male suspect entered the store alone, displayed a weapon to the pharmacist and demanded narcotics.

The suspect reportedly fled the store toward Falmouth Shaw’s Plaza with the narcotics, Lt. John Kilbride said in the release. With the assistance of a South Portland Police Department dog team, the suspect was tracked to a side road off of Route 88.

Waugh was arrested without incident around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday at his home, the release said.

He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Friday in Portland District Court.

If convicted, Waugh faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000 on the most serious charge of robbery. He also could be ordered to pay restitution.
