WASHBURN, Maine — A husband and wife have been arrested in connection with an alleged methamphetamine operation in Aroostook County, according to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Darin Cunningham, 36, and his wife, Kaylie, 31, both of Washburn, are facing a charge of aggravated operation of a methamphetamine lab, MDEA Commander Peter Arno said.
The alleged meth manufacturing operation was dismantled Thursday, according to Arno.
Members of the MDEA’s Aroostook Task Force and Washburn police have been investigating the alleged manufacturing and sale of the drug in town over the last several weeks.
Arno said the investigation included several undercover purchases from the duo out of their Main Street residence.
A search warrant executed Thursday turned up what Arno called a significant amount of evidence consistent with meth manufacturing. Just before the execution of the warrant, Darin Cunningham was spotted by drug agents driving along the South Wade Road.
As authorities tried to stop him, he was observed tossing what was determined to be meth-making material out the window, Arno said. Cunningham was taken into custody while his wife was arrested at home.
The charge was aggravated because of the residence being fewer than 1,000 feet from a school zone. Both were taken to the Aroostook County Jail, where bail was set at $10,000 cash or $100,000 surety. A referral also was made to Department of Health and Human Services because of a child, whose age was not disclosed, living at the residence. The child was not home at the time of the search warrant.
More charges are possible, as the case remains under investigation.
