HERMON, Maine — A Carmel motorcycle rider was taken to a local hospital for treatment of leg injuries after a collision with an SUV Tuesday at the intersection of Route 2 and Annis Road.

The crash occurred about 3:45 p.m. as Barry LaRochelle, 62, who was traveling south on Route 2 headed toward Carmel, tried to drive around a vehicle ahead of him that was making a left turn onto Annis Road, Sgt. Bobbie Pelletier of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

As he was doing so, he was struck by a Toyota 4Runner driven by Shawn Burgess, 44, also of Carmel, who had been waiting at the stop sign to make a turn from Annis Road onto Route 1, Pelletier said.

Pelletier said that Burgess did not see the motorcyclist until it was too late to stop.

LaRochelle was wearing a helmet, Pelletier said. He said that no charges are pending in connection with the collision.
