TOWNSHIP 311, Maine — A collision between a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck in rural Piscataquis County sent one man to the hospital Thursday, according to officials.
Ryan Brown, 35, of Mattawamkeag was traveling south on the Telos Road, about three-quarters of a mile from the intersection with the Golden Road, when he collided with an empty logging truck operated by Lester Dube, 55, of Eagle Lake, Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Wilson said.
Brown attempted to pass a loaded southbound truck, which was not involved in the collision, when he apparently became obscured by dust and could not avoid Dube’s rig, the deputy said.
The crash occurred around 4 p.m. Thursday, roughly 30 miles from the Golden Road’s Millinocket terminus, Wilson said.
Dube was not injured, but Brown had to be extricated by Millinocket rescue personnel, Wilson said. He was subsequently flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. An update on his condition was not immediately available Friday afternoon.
Brown was wearing his seat belt, and his pickup was demolished. Wilson said Dube’s truck was barely dented.
The Maine Warden Service and Maine State Police assisted Wilson at the scene.
