BAR HARBOR, Maine — Kebo Valley Golf Club’s assistant golf pro Eric Morris shot a course-record 64 at the 18-hole, par-70 layout Friday.

Sandusky asserts innocence

BELLEFONTE, Pennsylvania — Jerry Sandusky, the former football coach convicted in 2012 of molesting 10 boys, took the stand for the first time in his own defense on Friday, forcefully denying he had abused anyone, as a hearing on his bid for a new trial in Pennsylvania got underway.

Sandusky, an assistant coach for three decades at Pennsylvania State University under legendary head coach Joe Paterno, testified at the hearing to determine whether his original trial lawyer, Joseph Amendola, failed to provide him with a competent defense.

The former coach contends that Amendola would not allow him to take the stand, a decision that Sandusky and his current lawyer, Alexander Lindsay, say was a crucial mistake.

“Mr. Amendola even stated in his opening remarks that I would be testifying. That’s what I was prepared to do,” Sandusky said on Friday.

When Lindsay asked if Sandusky ever had oral or anal sex with anyone, he answered: “Absolutely not. That is foreign to me. It is disgusting.”

When asked if he was guilty of the crimes for which he was convicted, he again answered: “Absolutely not.

Patriots’ Mitchell suffers elbow subluxation

New England Patriots rookie wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell is expected to miss four weeks after suffering an elbow subluxation during Thursday night’s preseason game against the New Orleans Saints.

X-rays on Mitchell’s left elbow were negative and his elbow needed to pop back into place after he landed on it awkwardly in the second quarter, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. Mitchell also is scheduled to undergo an MRI.

Mitchell, 23, suffered the partial dislocation when he was dragged down after making an 8-yard reception along the right sideline.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Mitchell, a fourth-round draft choice out of Georgia, had four catches for 55 yards in the 34-22 win at Gillette Stadium.

Broncos’ Keo suspended for two games

Denver Broncos safety Shiloh Keo was suspended for the first two games of the regular season due to a violation of the NFL substance-abuse policy, the league announced Friday.

Keo was disciplined for a drunk-driving incident near Boise, Idaho, on Feb. 13. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor DUI and was sentenced to one-year probation.

Keo can continue to participate in practices and preseason games. His suspension starts after rosters are cut to 53 players.

The 28-year-old was instrumental in Denver’s Super Bowl push. He also recovered the onside kick attempt by New England’s Stephen Gostkowski to clinch the Broncos’ Super Bowl win.

Stephen Jones says ‘no chance’ Manziel joins Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said Friday that embattled quarterback Johnny Manziel won’t be playing for the team.

Manziel has expressed interest in joining the Cowboys but Jones strongly stated that he will not be signed.

“There’s no chance,” Jones told CBS Sports Radio. “Obviously Johnny needs to get his hands around his life. He needs to do the things that make him a good person off the field, I think, before he can ever be successful in our league.”

Manziel experienced a disastrous two NFL seasons with the Cleveland Browns prior to being released last March. He had multiple off-the-field incidents that hindered his opportunities to play.
