LEBANON, Maine — Maine State Police are investigating the theft of a Jeep from the Salmon Falls Campground on Friday, according to a statement posted on state police’s Facebook page Sunday.

The person who reported the theft was staying at the campground and said he was away from his campsite when the theft occurred, according to the statement.

According to police, another person working at the campground’s front gate reported a woman walked up to the gate and asked to go into the office to use a phone. She later was seen walking toward the campground and then driving away in the stolen vehicle.

The Jeep was found off Hubbard Road in Berwick on Saturday.

Anyone with information on the theft report should call Trooper Mike Lane at 657-3030.
