WILTON, Maine — A 24-year-old Wilton man was arrested Thursday in connection with the June 1 shooting death of a New Sharon man.

Timothy Danforth was arrested by Maine State Police detectives after his indictment by the Franklin County grand jury on charges of murder, manslaughter and aggravated assault, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Thursday in a news release.

Danforth is charged in the death of 24-year-old Michael Reis, who was shot outside Danforth’s father’s home at 259 Weld Road in Wilton in the early morning hours of June 1.

Reis was part of a group of people who had gone to the house and got into a confrontation with the home’s occupants, including Danforth and his father, McCausland said.

After the shooting, Reis was taken to a Farmington hospital by friends and was pronounced dead there.

Danforth is being held without bail at Franklin County Detention Center and is expected to make his initial court appearance on Friday or Monday, McCausland said. He said that the Maine attorney general’s office presented the case to the grand jury this week.
