ROCKPORT, Maine — Rockport police are investigating an incident in which a man was found early Friday morning in Chickawaukie Lake, claiming he had jumped in the water to escape an assault.
The Knox County Regional Communications Center received a complaint at 3:52 a.m. about two people yelling and running up the road on Route 17.
Officer James Moore arrived at the turnoff on Route 17 for the lake and located a man in the water, according to Rockport Chief Randy Gagne. The man stated he had been accosted by an unknown man and jumped in the water to get away from him.
The matter is under investigation, the chief said, and no further information will be released at this time.
Moore was assisted by Camden and Rockland police departments and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
There were no serious injuries to the alleged victim, and no charges have been filed.
