STANDISH, Maine — A Standish man died and his wife was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday night on Route 25, Capt. Don Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday morning in a news release.
Arthur Ames, 84, and Angeline Ames, 85, were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where Arthur Ames later died from his injuries with family members present, Goulet said. Angeline Ames remained at Maine Medical Center Sunday morning, where she was in critical condition as of 9 a.m., he said.
The crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. at the intersection of Route 25 and Manchester Road. Arthur Ames was attempting to turn off the Manchester Road onto Route 25 when his 2013 Nissan Sentra traveled into the path of a westbound 2012 Jeep Liberty driven by Samantha Woodbrey, 19, of Cornish, Goulet said.
Woodbrey’s vehicle struck Ames’ vehicle on the driver’s side, Goulet said. Woodbrey was not seriously injured.
Standish Emergency personnel were assisted by rescue personnel from Gorham and fire and rescue personnel from Limington.
The crash was reconstructed by sheriff’s deputies and remained under investigation, Goulet said.
He said neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors.
