The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado landed in Massachusetts, which Concord officials say damaged 39 homes early Monday morning.
The tornado, a category EF-1 that was 400 yards wide and a half a mile long, uprooted trees and knocked out power in Concord and Marlboro, striking between 3 and 4 a.m. The weather service said drought conditions may have contributed to the number of trees down, but the 100 miles per hour winds were the main cause of damage.
Eversource reported it has less than 500 customers without power Monday morning, almost the entirety of them in Marion on the South Shore.
National Grid was working to restore power to 226 customers, all of them in Rhode Island.
Officials said only one house suffered significant damage. There were no reported injuries.
Concord police, meanwhile, asked the public to stay away from the Lexington Road area as they assisted crews with cleaning up felled trees and downed wires.
