INDIAN TOWNSHIP, Maine — A local man died early Sunday morning while walking along a road when he was struck by a passing vehicle, according to the Indian Township police chief.
Anthony S. Dana, 27, was hit by a 2001 Chevrolet Impala about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Chief Alexander Nicholas said Monday. Christy R. Grant, 19, of Indian Township was driving the Impala south on Peter Dana Point Road when she pulled into the northbound lane to pass another southbound vehicle in front of her, Nicholas said.
Dana was in the northbound lane in a residential area when he was struck, according to the police chief.
“He was killed as a result of being run over,” Nicholas said. “There is evidence [the incident] was alcohol-related.”
The police chief added that the road has an uphill grade for southbound vehicles and a speed limit of 25 mph where Dana was struck. He said police have not determined how fast Grant may have been driving at the time.
Nicholas said the vehicle has been impounded and that, as with all fatal car crashes, a blood sample was taken from Grant to be tested, results of which are usually sent back to police within a few weeks.
Grant, the police chief said, was arrested on a charge of aggravated driving to endanger. She was taken to Washington County Jail where she was booked and then later released on $10,000 surety bail.
Nicholas said the incident is under investigation and that Grant could face additional charges.
