Six former Foxcroft Academy athletic standouts entered the school’s athletic Hall of Fame last month, the school announced Wednesday.
The six individuals were inducted at halftime of the homecoming football game against Hermon.
Entering the Hall of Fame were Karen Blodgett Baker (Class of 1968), David Ingraham (1975), Jeffrey Decker Merrill (1986), Tracy London Cushman (1992), Jennifer Michaud Finch (1994) and Vanessa Lougee (2010).
Baker starred in basketball and softball, which during her time in high school were the only interscholastic sports available for girls.
The 1966-67 Ponies finished the season undefeated (16-0), earning a Penquis League championship.
During that season, Baker scored 50 points in a game against Piscataquis of Guilford. She also pitched and played second base on Foxcroft Academy’s softball team.
Ingraham was a three-sport athlete at Foxcroft Academy, starring in football, basketball and baseball.
He earned All-Little Ten Conference accolades in football as Foxcroft Academy’s quarterback and was an outstanding catcher for the baseball team, earning All-Penquis League honors.
As a point guard, Ingraham directed the boys basketball team to the 1975 state championship, the school’s only state title in basketball.
Merrill played football, basketball and baseball, leading the Ponies to a state championship in football as a sophomore.
In baseball, he sparked the Ponies to a Penquis League title as a senior, and hit .444 as a junior. He also was a standout basketball player, leading the Ponies to the Eastern Maine Class C semifinals on two occasions.
Merrill would go on to play basketball and rugby at Colby College in Waterville.
Cushman played field hockey, softball and basketball at Foxcroft Academy, leading the school to its first state championship in field hockey in 1990.
Cushman would supply that contest’s only goal in a 1-0 win over Telstar, giving longtime coach Gene Philpot her first state title. Cushman was an all-state selection that year. She also would captain the school’s softball and basketball teams.
Cushman is now an avid golfer and runner who has competed in several marathons and canoe races, and she is married to kayaker Kenny Cushman.
Finch captained Foxcroft’s basketball, field hockey and indoor and outdoor track teams and was most successful in track and field hockey.
She led the Ponies to state championships in track and field hockey, and she went on to play both sports at Springfield College.
Finch also coached cross-country at Northeastern University while attending graduate school. She is an avid runner who has run more than a dozen marathons.
Lougee played soccer, basketball and softball at Foxcroft Academy and is one of only two female players in school history to accumulate 1,000 career points.
Lougee was a 2010 McDonald’s Senior All-Star and led the Ponies to a No. 1 seed in Class C and the semifinal round of the regional tournament. She also earned Big East first-team honors as a junior and senior.
