PORTSMOUTH, New Hampshire — Two Maine men were arrested after police in Portsmouth say they found 20 pounds of marijuana hidden inside the trunk of their car.
Around 3 p.m. Tuesday, a New Hampshire state trooper stopped a 2016 Toyota Camry for motor vehicle violations on Interstate 95 southbound in Portsmouth.
Troopers identified the driver as 61-year-old Joseph Gallagher and his passenger as 36-year-old Jason Gallagher, both from Waldoboro.
The trooper’s dog, Gauge, alerted officers to the odor of drugs inside the vehicle, according to police.
Troopers say a search of the vehicle revealed more than 20 pounds of marijuana hidden inside the trunk.
Joseph and Jason Gallagher were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute. They were both were released on bail.
