BIDDEFORD, Maine — A Biddeford man is dead, and police are searching for a driver who hit him.

Police said the hit-and-run happened in a shopping plaza parking lot, off a busy road in the middle of the afternoon.

Maine State Police said a confrontation in a parking lot led to the man being hit by a truck, but they’re not sure if that’s what killed him.

They’re now searching for that driver and hope surveillance footage from businesses can answer questions as to what exactly killed him.

Police combed through the scene of the incident, but said they’re still unsure if a crime was committed after the body of 30-year-old Matthew Perry was found lying in this middle of the parking lot.

Investigators said Perry’s body had severe injuries, and believe he may have been involved a confrontation with the driver of the truck that lead up to his death.

Perry’s family said he had been released from the hospital Monday morning but had no idea why he’d be walking in the area. They said he’s originally from Biddeford.

State police are now looking for the driver of a dark-colored Chevy or GMC pick-up truck with a tool box in the back.

They believe that driver and Perry may have had a fight in the parking lot before his death.

Police said Perry’s body will undergo an autopsy Tuesday which they hope will reveal exactly how he died.

His family said he leaves behind a 15-year-old son.
