FALMOUTH, Maine — A Falmouth doctor, convicted of illegal drug distribution, tax evasion and health care fraud, has been sentenced.
In November, a jury found Dr. Joel Sabean guilty following a two-week trial.
Court records say the 69-year-old sent more than $2.3 million to a relative in Florida, and had her send him fake medical bills so he could write off about $3 million in medical expenses on his tax returns.
He also wrote invalid prescriptions for the relative, which were illegally reimbursed.
He will spend two years in prison and must pay more than $5,000 in restitution.
