SEARSPORT, Maine — A Bangor woman will spend a year in jail for running her former boyfriend over with a car.

Katherine A. Harriman, 29, received a seven-year sentence last week, with all but one year suspended, for an elevated aggravated assault charge, according to court records. She will be on probation for four years after her release.

On Oct. 1, 2016, Harriman ran over her 41-year-old partner’s leg and smashed out one of his car windows during a dispute. Police in Bangor arrested her later that night.

Harriman also was sentenced to six months for reckless conduct and four months for criminal mischief, which will be served concurrently with her one-year sentence. Two other charges, domestic violence assault and aggravated driving to endanger, were dismissed.

In addition to jail time, Harriman will have to pay about $10,000 in restitution to her victim, who suffered a compound leg fracture and other injuries, according to Assistant District Attorney Bill Entwistle. A portion of that money goes toward the Maine Victims Compensation Fund, but the bulk goes to the victim, Entwistle said.

She’s expected to start her sentence on June 11. The Maine Department of Corrections will determine which prison will house Harriman while she serves her time, Entwistle said.
