BRUNSWICK, Maine — A Brunswick man was taken to Cumberland County Jail on Friday morning after he allegedly struck another man with a car Thursday night at Thomas Point Beach Campground.

Jay K. Jeffrey, 31, was taken into custody later Friday morning after allegedly fleeing the scene of the incident Thursday night, Brunswick Police Cmdr. Tom Garrepy said.

Jeffrey was charged with Class A felony elevated aggravated assault, domestic violence assault, reckless conduct and driving to endanger, and held on $13,500 cash bail.

Officers were called to the campground on Meadow Road at about 9 p.m. Thursday for a reported domestic dispute and spoke with a 33-year-old man who said he’d been struck by a car and suffered a possible broken arm, according to Garrepy.

The man was taken to a local hospital by a personal vehicle.

Jeffrey also allegedly assaulted his 23-year-old girlfriend, of Brunswick.

Garrepy said Jeffrey, who was identified as the driver by several witnesses, left the campground and police could not locate him at his home, but did find his silver Lexus, with the engine warm, and so began a track with a Freeport police dog.

The track was unsuccessful, but Friday morning police arrested Jeffrey at his home at about 9:45 a.m.

Jeffrey is due in court on Sept. 19.
