Nick Moore of Bangor, a recent graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire, was honored for his contributions to the Big Red’s baseball team this spring.

Moore was named co-recipient of the 2017 Dana J.P. Wingate Memorial Baseball Trophy for excellence on the diamond, sharing the honor with classmate Collin Shapiro.

Moore was expected to be the third starter in Exeter’s pitching rotation, but because of arm injuries to the team’s top two starters was thrust into the No. 1 starters’ role and and earned all-league first-team accolades while helping his team to a 14-6 record and the second seed for the Central New England Prep School League playoffs.

The Big Red advanced to the tournament semifinals before being ousted by Worcester (Massachusetts) Academy.

Moore was joined on the Phillips Exeter baseball and ice hockey teams by his twin brother Ryan,

Nick Moore grew up playing baseball in the Bangor Little League program, participating on all-star teams that captured five state championships from 2007 to 2012 as well as competing on the city’s 2013 Senior League World Series entry.

He subsequently played on prep teams at South Kent School in Connecticut and Phillips Exeter that advanced to postseason play or won league championships in four of the past five years.

Moore also was a goalie on the Exeter ice hockey team, having previously represented Maine on USA Hockey All-New England teams.

He will attend the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, this fall.
