A 21-year-old woman suffered serious injuries Thursday night when her bicycle was struck by a car in St. George, police said Saturday.
The woman’s name is being withheld pending confirmation of family notifications, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. on Thursday on Route 131 near Ridge Road. Witnesses told police that the bicyclist was riding in the southbound lane when her bicycle was struck by a car driven by a 17-year-old female, who was traveling in the same direction and who also was not identified.
The bicyclist was flown by Lifeflight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where she was reportedly in serious condition.
The driver of the car was not injured.
The cause of the crash has yet to be determined, the sheriff’s office said. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.
