Authorities have identified the 53-year-old woman who drowned Sunday morning when the boat she was riding in overturned off the Maine coast.

Elizabeth Douglass of Biddeford was among a group of four people who were fishing from a 21-foot Cuddy Cabin boat that capsized when it was hit by a wave about 10:30 a.m. 10 miles off the coast of Biddeford Pool, according to Maine Department of Marine Resources spokesman Jeff Nichols.

Nichols said none of the people aboard the boat at the time were wearing life jackets.

Three others were rescued by a man who heard a gunshot meant to serve as a distress signal, Nichols said.

Rescued were boat owner Carl Poissant, 57, of Saco, and passengers James Beal, 53, of Biddeford, and Phillip Langevin, 58, of Lyman, Nichols said.
