Bangor Daily News journalist Troy R. Bennett won two first-place awards, along with a second-place, from the Maine Press Association this month for his videography work in 2016-2017. Bennett’s multimedia work helped the BDN claim the association’s general excellence award among all daily newspapers in the state for its digital presence.

In this video, first published in February of this year, Bennett profiled cancer survivor Andrea Caron, who was having her surgically reconstructed breasts tattooed. The video includes some nudity, so viewers should be aware of that before pressing “play.”

“Today is the day that I have been waiting for,” Caron told Bennett at the time, “to finally put something back on my body that was taken.”

The poignant video, which also prominently features Portland tattoo artist Mary Schmaling-Kearns at 13 Moons Tattoo Studio, won first place among daily newspaper entries  in the MPA’s features video category.
