The University of Maine football team will make trips to the states of Kentucky and Michigan next season to take on Football Bowl Subdivision opponents.
UMaine recently announced that it is taking on Western Kentucky and Central Michigan as part of its 11-game schedule.
Coach Joe Harasymiak’s Black Bears are scheduled to battle the Hilltoppers on Sept. 8 at Bowling Green and, after a bye week, travel to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, to take on the Chippewas.
It marks the first meeting for UMaine with both football programs.
The 2018 campaign again will kick off with a contest against border rival and Colonial Athletic Association nemesis New Hampshire on Thursday, Aug. 30 at Alfond Stadium in Orono. It marks the 107th all-time meeting between the two teams.
It is the Black Bears’ only home game during the first month of the season as they are slated to play Yale on Sept. 29 at New Haven, Conn.
UMaine returns home on Oct. 6 to play Villanova, then travels to Rhode Island in search of the program’s 11th straight win against the Rams in the 96th all-time contest.
UMaine goes back on the road on Oct. 20 in search of a fifth consecutive victory against William & Mary then returns to Orono for an Oct. 27 game against Albany.
Towson returns to the Black Bears’ schedule for the first-time since 2015 when they face Tigers on Nov. 3 in Maryland. UMaine closes out the road slate on Nov. 10 at Richmond, then closes out the regular season with a home game against Elon on Nov. 17.
Husson plans watch party
The Husson University football team will learn its NCAA Division III tournament opponent and game site on Sunday, Nov. 12.
Parents, students, alumni, friends and media are invited to attend the festivities. The selection show starts at 5:30 pm on Sunday and will be streamed in the D. Bruce MacGregor Sports Hall of Fame Room located in the Newman Athletic Facility.
The playoff brackets will be released during the course of the half-hour show.
