A man from Augusta was hit in a crosswalk and later died of his injuries Saturday evening.

Police have yet not released the name of the 81-year-old local man but said Andrew Bilodeau, 55, of Augusta was driving the car that hit him while he was crossing Northern Avenue around 5 p.m., according to a report from WGME. The man, whose identity will be released after police notify his family, was rushed to MaineGeneral Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

No charges have been filed against Bilodeau, who was not injured in the crash and police said is a transient, WGME reported.

The crash is still under investigation by police. Northern Avenue was shut down for several hours Saturday while police reconstructed the incident.
