Wednesday’s fatal arson in Lebanon was ruled a suicide, police said.

Fire Marshals and state police responded to the Shapleigh Road fire around noon, where they recovered the body of the 58-year-old man who lived there from the second floor of the home, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Authorities said the house was intentionally set on fire, but did not release any further details.

On Thursday, the State Medical Examiner’s office ruled the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, McCausland said. Before he shot himself, he set the house on fire, according to investigating authorities.
