A woman died Sunday night when she lost control of her truck and hit a tree in Sanford, police said.

Aurora Smith, 29, of South Berwick was driving east on Oak Street when she swerved off the road as she approached the intersection with Hanson Ridge Road around 7:45 p.m., Sanford Chief Deputy Timothy Strout said. The juncture is part of Sanford’s Springvale neighborhood.

A police investigation later found that Smith was speeding when she lost control of her Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck, causing it to flip on its side and hit a tree, Strout said.

She died before first responders arrived at the scene, he said.

Police are still investigating the crash.
